"Dad Loves His Work" is from 1981. A truly successful album.
The best: "Hard Times", the opening song with a splendid choir in the chorus that makes it very catchy, "Her Town Too" a delicate and sweet piece, perhaps the best of the album, the classic Taylorian "I Will Follow" on the power of love, the splendid ballad "Believe It Or Not", the unusual powerful and captivating rock of "Stand And Fight"; Again, the touching reminiscences of an ancient journey in "London Town" (the city where Taylor recorded his first album for the Beatles' Apple). Taylor retraces the streets of the English capital trying to remember and regretting the man he was ten years prior when he was in London. Do not forget the happy tranquility and simplicity of "Summer's Here".
Lastly, the wonderful and reflective concluding piece of the album "That Lonesome Road" performed a cappella, which leaves me breathless with each listen.
From this latter:
"If I had stopped to listen once or twice
If I had closed my mouth and open my eyes
If I had cooled my head and warmed my heart
I'd not be on this road tonight..."
An album from which Taylor does not ask too much, expects nothing more, he simply does what he knows, and splendid melodies emerge; nothing goes beyond the lines and that's also why it's beautiful.
