In 2000, the AFI listed it among the hundred greatest comedies of all time. Strange, because this film has nothing of a comedy. "Broadcast News" is a dramatic film in the true sense of the word "drama": radical choice.
In a newsroom, director Jim Brooks ("Terms of Endearment"), showcases the (radical) choices made in shaping the news. And the form often becomes substance, determining the life and especially the career of individuals. A very bitter prophecy of today's tear-jerking TV, and above all, the subtle disintegration of the difference between good and evil. Moral: smoke does more damage than fire.
Perhaps a bit dated in some parts, but from another perspective, a nice dive into the 80s.
Oscar-nominated William Hurt and the extraordinary Holly Hunter (who fell into oblivion after the unforgettable "The Piano").
One of the forgotten masterpieces of American cinema.
