Despite the name, Jamaica (Hilaire & Lyonett) are a Parisian indie music duo.

Produced by Xavier from Justice and Daft Punk's sound engineer (P. Franco), the two, already known in the French music scene under the name Poney Poney, released their first album: "No Problem" last August 23.

The light and fresh, summery album is a mix of pop/rock sounds from the last three decades' radio hits. Mixed excellently and cleanly, the album features 11 tracks, with simple guitar riffs, a powerful and gritty bass in the Justice style, minimal drums, and a slightly captivating voice.

The dry yet distinctly pop sounds, which will probably struggle in a live version, are potentially excellent for cheerful beach parties around the world if only the album hadn't been released almost in September. Perhaps this is the strength of this record. To be pop and not be ashamed of it one bit. And a record like this was needed, one that pleases everyone and no one, in a period where everything and everyone is (necessarily) categorized into a specific genre or style.

Listen to the singles "I Think I Like U 2" and their video that mocks musical world clichés, and "Short and Entertaining" to get an idea of what this duo can offer you.
