Jafar Panahi

Jafar Panahi is an Iranian film director associated with the Iranian New Wave, renowned for realist, socially engaged dramas that foreground everyday life and women’s experiences. His films The Circle (2000) won the Golden Lion at Venice, Crimson Gold (2003) received a Cannes jury prize, and Taxi Tehran (2015) won the Golden Bear at Berlin. Despite censorship and legal restrictions in Iran, he continued to make acclaimed works.
