THE REVIEW

Contrary to what was done with "As Daylight Fades", the first live album by Jadis which only drew two songs from the then recent "Somersoult" and sourced the rest from the band's early (and better...) CDs, this "Alive Outside" instead features half of its setlist from "Understand", the immediately preceding studio album.

Honestly, the songs contained in the aforementioned album certainly didn't thrill me, and the corresponding live versions only add a pinch of spice to a soup that can be eaten, but surely doesn't excite the taste buds. Sure, one can immediately cleanse their palate by "biting into" track four, the splendid "Wonderful World" or skipping to the equally beautiful "Holding Your Breath," but one certainly can't continue the meal too relaxed since hopping from track to track one risks stumbling upon the indigestible "Batstein" or the senseless "dulcis in fundo" represented by the Floyd-like "Comfortably Numb," executed diligently but to which no band could add anything compared to the original version. Only for die-hard fans (and, I would add, those who aren't too picky, to stick with culinary metaphors...).

Summary by Bot

The live album Alive Outside by Jadis features many songs from their prior studio album Understand, which did not excite the reviewer. While standouts like Wonderful World and Holding Your Breath offer some appeal, other tracks such as Batstein and the cover of Comfortably Numb fall flat. Ultimately, the album may mainly satisfy dedicated fans and less critical listeners.
