The Profile

Jade Warrior is a British progressive group formed in 1970 by Jon Field and Tony Duhig (ex-July). Early albums appeared on Vertigo, followed by a celebrated instrumental/world-tinged run on Island Records in the mid-70s. Their sound blends prog, ambient, jazz and global influences; Steve Winwood guested on Waves.

British progressive rock group founded in 1970 by Jon Field (flute, percussion) and Tony Duhig (guitar), formerly of July. Released three albums on Vertigo (including Jade Warrior, Released, Last Autumn's Dream) and four instrumental/world-influenced albums on Island Records (Floating World, Waves, Kites, Way of the Sun). Steve Winwood contributed piano to Waves. Tony Duhig died in 1990. The group later issued material into the 1990s and the album Now in 2008.

DeBaser’s reviews frame Jade Warrior as an underrated British prog outfit that fused world, jazz, ambient and psychedelic elements. Waves is praised as a naturalistic, meditative concept with Steve Winwood guesting. Released (1972) is lauded for tribal percussion, jazz/folk crossovers and a latent psychedelic vein. The debut inspires imaginative tangents about cross-genre collaborations.
