The IZZ are Tom Galgano on vocals and keyboards, John Galgano on bass and vocals, Paul Bremner on guitar, Greg DiMiceli on drums and percussion, and Brian Coralian on drums and electronic percussion programming. “I Move” is their second album and it contains 15 songs for almost 73 minutes of music, but prog fans who adore mega suites should not be alarmed, as the tracks are almost all connected or separated in quite a tenuous way, forming almost a single suite.
The prog proposed by IZZ, it should be said immediately, is quite catchy and easily accessible as there are many "listener-friendly" parts that almost edge into pop (an assertion to be taken with due proportions given that we are talking about pop as we might find in some songs by Spock's Beard and certainly not as Lunapop intends). The "song structure" that characterizes many tracks thus makes certain choruses easily memorable, whose melodic line is never banal even if sometimes of typical American FM style. That said, prog purists might already be turning up their noses, so I'll try to reassure them by ensuring that IZZ have plenty to satisfy their ears as well. It should indeed be emphasized that between a "light" part and another, there are frequent instrumental sections, sometimes symphonic and very majestic, and sometimes characterized by moments a bit more frantic and “quirky” in the style of the old King Crimson.
In short, the alternation of pop and prog components represents the strength of the album as it makes it extremely varied and suitable for those who are just starting to get to grips with our favorite genre (to guide them to more complex things and sweeten their journey), but also for those who are already quite experienced (to relax their ears a bit between a Canterbury group and a Zeuhl one). Hoping that in the end, it doesn’t end up displeasing both factions... in that case, don't blame me!
