Ivo Pogorelich (born 20 October 1958) is a Croatian classical pianist known for controversial, idiosyncratic interpretations and international career following the 1980 International Chopin Competition.

Pogorelich gained international attention after his participation in the 1980 International Chopin Competition. He has been publicly described as controversial for his unconventional interpretations; his repertoire includes Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Ravel, Scriabin, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov. He has released numerous recordings, including complete collections.

A single DeBaser review (veramazzotta) of Ivo Pogorelich's 13 April 2007 concert in Terni delivers a sharply negative appraisal. The reviewer accuses Pogorelich of distorting scores, using inappropriate tempos and producing imbalanced sound. Beethoven Op.111 and Brahms intermezzo receive particularly harsh criticism; Rachmaninov is noted as comparatively more interesting. The review frames Pogorelich's originality as self-indulgent rather than insightful.

'Sometimes They Come Back', the title of a famous book by Stephen King: 'Ivo Pogorelich', one of the most debated pianists of recent years, has returned, always distinguished by an 'alleged' originality of programs and interpretations perfected to the extreme in their sound aspect.
