Be ready with your rifles because I want to talk to you about IVAN CATTANEO.

Flamboyant figure of Italian art. I take a cue from DUEMILA60 to try to focus on the character. In the early '80s, he was a regular guest on a cult show of the time: 'MISTER FANTASY,' perhaps the only decent music show ever broadcast in Italy. Ivan, very colorful, would reinterpret and revolutionize a '60s hit every week, taking it, coloring it, and making it his own. Thrilling when he turns MINA's great hit “Una Zebra a Pois” into a SKA piece; at the end, he crosses the lyrics with “Tintarella di Luna,” memorable is the refrain in Bergamasque dialect: “ciàpel sotto e fal balà, una zebra a puà.”

Some songs, sung by Ivan, seem like true gay pieces like “Stessa Spiaggia Stesso Mare,” a track that here becomes a REGGAE, where it seems two men are expected, “Che Colpa Abbiamo Noi” where being different is no longer about being long-haired but about being different in spirit. In the lyrics 'OK' becomes 'OH GAY' to make it clear. It was a memorable operation from a marketing standpoint but, it marked the beginning of the end for our Ivan; from here on, he would have no more space except in shows dedicated to nostalgia, lately in various music farms.
Yet those who had the fortune to hear the first albums know that the character wasn't so foolish, certain insights like the T.U.V.O.G. Art (The art of the five senses, where our whole being had to participate to perceive every form of smell, taste, color, sound).

But then you know, if you record for L'Ultima spiaggia it's one thing and certain things you are allowed to do, art is not sold, but if you switch to a major label and meet Roberto Colombo you might sell records but artistically you're finished, and with Alberto Camerini that makes two. If you have an open mind and the chance, try listening to the first three albums. Regarding Camerini, the story is similar, he meets Colombo and succeeds, but not in their first work together as Alberto doesn't even sign the lyrics. Certainly, however, the songs are clearly Camerini's work.

A heartfelt thanks to Roberto Colombo. The spell check made me remove some accents, could he be right?
