Isaac Hayes (born 1942 in Tennessee) was an American soul musician, songwriter and actor, nicknamed 'Black Moses'. He is known for Hot Buttered Soul and for composing the soundtrack to Shaft.

Born in Tennessee in 1942; associated with Stax Records; co-wrote the song "Soul Man" (with David Porter) for Sam & Dave; composed the soundtrack and signature song "Theme from Shaft", for which he won an Academy Award (Best Original Song, 1972). He remained active in music and film through the 2000s and died in 2008.

Two DeBaser reviews praise Isaac Hayes for his expansive arrangements and commanding voice. Hot Buttered Soul is highlighted for its long, suite-like tracks and orchestral soul. The Polydor-era compilation is noted for strong late-'70s/early-'80s soul performances. Reviewers emphasize Hayes's stature as 'Black Moses' and recommend listening on good audio equipment.

For:Fans of classic soul, collectors of vinyl/CD remasters, newcomers curious about late-60s/70s soul and soundtracks.

Finally, a hope that someone will take care of remastering this CD, updating it to current technologies, as the available support, still from the first generations, doesn't do justice to the sound dynamic, despite those content with the low profile of an iPod or worse (abomination), the cellphone.
