The Iron Maiden need no introduction: this band was one of the most important in the NWOBHM, which stands for New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Eddie's soldiers released this DVD to show what they were like when they were still rookies. Well, maybe they also did it for the bank account, but that's not our concern.
The DVD captures them with 3 concerts, respectively: on the tour of 'Killers' (1981); 'The Number Of The Beast' (1982) and 'Piece Of Mind' (1983). In the first Live, which probably will be more appreciated by long-time fans, there's Paul Di'Anno, who would soon depart. The Live is of very good quality, considering the date and the songs, only from the first 2 albums, are played excellently.
The second Live, which I liked the most, is the first with Bruce Dickinson, who previously played in Samson. The singer is very at ease and the Band doesn't forget to pay a sort of tribute to Di'Anno by playing 'Murders In The Rue Morgue', which is performed very well by Dickinson. Sure, here the songs are almost exclusively from 'The Number Of The Beast', but the final song, 'Iron Maiden', is played superbly, even though I slightly prefer the one in the first Live.
The third and last Live is amazing because it includes songs from 'The Number Of The Beast', 'Piece Of Mind', and also 'Sanctuary', from the band's first album. All the songs are performed excellently, especially 'The Trooper', almost better than the album version, and 'Run To The Hills'.
If that's not enough, there's a second DVD full of extras, videos, and other Live performances. The Maiden will release another DVD with Lives from 'Powerslave' to 'No Prayer For The Dying', but I think I won't buy it because I'm not interested in this part of their history. In short, this DVD is a must-have for Maiden fans and non-fans alike.
