ViaAudio records is an interesting label from the Brianza region that has very promising names in the Italian underground music scene in its roster. From the engaged songwriting of Giuliano Dottori (also guitarist of Amor Fou) to the post-rock of Aim, passing through the pyrotechnic folk of Arturo Fiesta Circo, the guys from the Viaaudio collective try to satisfy a bit all tastes.
It is up to Io?Drama, led by the magnetic Fabrizio Pollio, to undertake the challenging task of capturing that more fickle and young audience, the one that searches for catchy and reassuring solutions in music. In other words, the more "pop" audience. Obviously, this is said with the most noble meaning of the term, since, and this I can personally confirm, the choices of the Viaaudio guys can be trusted.
In this "Da consumarsi entro la fine", the second episode of the Milan-based quartet, Io?Drama offers eleven catchy and well-structured tracks where Fabrizio's splendid voice (a truly admirable timbre and range, also confirmed in live performances) plays with the violin layers of Vito Gatto and the Muse-like guitar and drum rhythms.
The album presents itself with equal parts of light and shadow. On one hand, one must acknowledge the uniqueness of a truly superb voice and the attempt at non-trivial writing, along with truly winning melodic solutions (Dafne in tangenziale, Saverio), on the other hand, it is a product that would have benefited from more incisive production and greater attention to sounds. However, given the band's young age, there is plenty of room to fully hit the target, and tracks like the catchy Musabella or the inspired Quello che lasci should herald a very promising future for Via Audio's "protégées".
A band to get to know.
