THE REVIEW

Months have passed, different ones since the album was released, and the non-existent Joy Division-like preconceptions regarding this band have settled. It's easy to dismiss Interpol as déjà vu, just a minimal, really minimal vocal similarity with Ian Curtis sparks outrage: nothing could be more wrong, even Interpol themselves wouldn't know how to respond to such claims. The same was said about Echo & the Bunnymen: just like the Doors, people claimed, hell they were imitating the Doors, maybe some of you remember the Bunnymen as the Doors' clones?

This is one of the most convincing bands I've ever listened to in the 2000s, alongside Editors and The National. Capable of crafting a song: personally, I needed a band like this: epic, powerful, classy, and above all, "recognizable".

To hell with the quick-pen reviewers who dismiss everything with a generic déjà vu: champions in dismissing a band by comparing it to practically everyone: from David Bowie to the Psychedelic Furs, incapable, truly incapable of grasping the potential of a band in time, good only at virtual (and not) self-serving discussions with past glories, boasting about listens done who knows when and why. Evidently so numb they can't distinguish good from bad anymore.

Interpol is a great band; this third album maintains the high level already known from "Antics," their best work. I highlight the best tracks: "Pioneer to the Falls", "Pace is the Trick" in my opinion the best track of the album with that epic/suggestive flow that shows our marker, and "Rest my Chemistry".

Other than that, there's not much to say about them, WHY? They are what they play, no more, no less. They don't like making proclamations, maybe they didn't even expect the (relative) success they had, they are, in short, a "pure" rock band.

Let's see them live on November 13th with the Pace brothers to get a more precise idea.

Bye

But it works, oh it does.

Interpol resemble themselves more than something else... they have their own trademarks.

The album is dark, gloomy, powerful, and direct. It doesn’t play, it doesn’t laugh, it doesn’t make your foot tap... it almost attacks you.

Interpol reawaken, deliver a great blow, and by seeking new paths, return to the levels of their debut.
