La Nascita (Vol. #1)

Dazzling! This is the most suitable term for this compilation that INRI of Turin (yet another collective of artists who hate artist collectives) released for free download during Christmas 2011. I must thank a post by chance intercepted from Leumass Leumass (alias Samuel Romano, Subsonica) for discovering this initiative and especially for making a day marked by the typical "spinning in circles" around shops more interesting. The bands featured are AntiAnti (solo project of the bassist of Linea 77), Bianco, The Cyborgs, Ila Rosso, and I Treni All'Alba, with the participation of some big names like Caparezza, Veronika, and indeed the good Samuel.

The album alternates between tracks with sharp distortions (The Cyborgs), the instrumental ones from I Treni All'Alba, and the acoustic ones of Ila Rosso where the use of strings reigns. But beyond the musical research that is visibly perceptible and makes each artist a standalone system, as it should be, without creating new copies of the old, another good news is the lyrics: not at all trivial, direct, unfiltered, and with that right dose of irony. Through Bianco, Ila Rosso, and AntiAnti, especially in the track with Caparezza, an exemplary slice of the beloved boot is described, without too many compromises. Some examples of the key phrases that deserve reflection are: "...sometimes good looks aren't enough to save appearances..." (La Bellapresenza, Ila Rosso), "...we ended up inside, yes but inside Parliament, between a law and an amendment, for sure they won't catch us..." (Picciotti Della Benavita, AntiAnti ft. Caparezza), "...I realized I was twenty when I was already twenty-seven, the thought creates imbalances that summed up with others bring me down..." (Arpeggi E Sigarette, Bianco).

A separate chapter should be dedicated to the song "Tokai" by AntiAnti ft Samuel & Veronika: close your eyes and imagine an acoustic track sung by Samuel and you'll already understand what I'm talking about. Add a perfectly fitting electronic base and Samuel's voice intertwining perfectly with Veronika's, and there you have it: the cherry on top is served.
