After reviewing their debut "Nitecomes" on these pages a few years ago, Infall return (and what a return!) with "Silent." Building on the strengths of their debut album, the quartet has now reached the end of what we can define as a sonic journey focused on everything revolving around the math hemisphere. To arrive prepared for this release, the band has worked hard on the rough edges that were evident on first listen in the past, primarily the tendency to "do something more than necessary" which often turned an initially interesting track into something without a logical connection due to the chaos generated. Let's be clear, "Silent" is an album that lives and breathes chaos, but it certainly follows a studied logic, giving the listener the right amount of oxygen through continuous rhythmic upheavals that ultimately make this record very interesting. The acidic sounds of the guitars remind me of two bands I adored years ago, Curl Up And Die and Since By Man, while the destructive fury that devours every track is the offspring of what The Dillinger Escape Plan have taught us humans over the years. An album that's truly intense in every shade, as demonstrated by tracks like "The Random Butcher" and "Palindrome," two good slaps served as they should be. Alan Douches (who has worked with Mastodon, Converge, Every Time I Die...) added the cherry on top, here called in for the mastering.
