Finally, I've made up my mind! I've finally decided to sign up and post my first review after years of reading here on DeBaser! My first review is about the new work by the Californian band Incubus, titled "Trust Fall (Side A)", released on May 26, 2015, by Island Records. It’s important to note that it’s an EP, meaning it features "only" four songs. Reviewing a work consisting of "only" four tracks is seemingly difficult because you start listening, and in fifteen minutes, it’s already over. Beyond all the various forewords, the band, after four years since the last work (that reflective "If Not Now When?"), returns to show some teeth with a slight aggressiveness that strongly recalls their 2004 album "A Crow Left Of The Murder". The EP opens with the title track "Trust Fall", a positive song that needs a couple of listens to be fully appreciated. From here, it moves to "Make Out Party", the most disappointing song of the four, but even in this, you can clearly hear the sounds we’ve already heard in the aforementioned 2004 album. "Absolution Calling", the first single launched by the band, is the best of this quartet, mainly due to the very catchy chorus that repeats throughout the track, and then it closes with "Dance Like You're Dumb", a concert song that leaves a bit to be desired only in the lyrics, which, unlike what Brandon Boyd has accustomed us to, doesn’t demonstrate great maturity. Four songs that flow smoothly like oil with some truly interesting cues and others that need revisiting. Perhaps, with the release of "Side B", we might have more information about this work which can essentially be summarized in two points: first, the band has left behind (at least for now) the very reflective period from which their 2011 album emerged, and second, if you are a fan of the sounds and atmosphere of the album "A Crow Left Of The Murder", you will surely appreciate this EP!
