THE REVIEW

"Suffocate" is the first demo by Immortal, one of the best active black metal bands, and I have to admit, a complete disaster.

It's clear that at that time Immortal were just starting out. A lump of noise, a monotonous sound, and growls more akin to brutal than death. And let's not even mention the drums playing on their own. The worst song, in my opinion, is Left On The Stake.

The demo, consisting of 3 tracks, is available for free download on the band's official website. I hope they have composed another one because, otherwise, I can't explain the contracts with record labels.

Horror.

Summary by Bot

Immortal's first demo 'Suffocate' reveals the band's early, unrefined stage with harsh noise, monotonous sound, and awkward drumming. The review strongly criticizes the demo's quality, especially the track 'Left On The Stake'. Despite this raw beginning, the band's later success contrasts with this initial rough effort. The demo is freely available on their official website.

Immortal

Immortal is a Norwegian black metal band associated with the early 1990s Norwegian scene, known for fast, icy riffing and fantasy-tinged lyrics centered on the fictional realm Blashyrkh. Key figures discussed in the reviews include Abbath and Demonaz, with drummer Horgh joining later; Demonaz temporarily stopped playing guitar due to tendinitis but continued as lyricist, and later returned to guitar and vocals.
