I wouldn't dare to say that this album could easily stand among the 10 greatest death metal masterpieces of all time, an album that strikes the listener with new and imaginative solutions, a very dark production that came to light in the year 1996, during a period when death metal had largely lost the interest of the early '90s due to the spread of Black Metal from the northern lands (Well...).
Immolation had only released one album so far, the much-praised "Dawn Of Possession". Subsequently, due to various problems with record labels, the band had disappeared from the scene, returning only with this cornerstone of the genre that unfortunately is barely recognized but is the highest point reached in the discography of the Immolators along with the more recent "Close To A World Below". "Here In After" is a dark album that often still recalls Morbid Angel, but the group's sound is evolving just like the technique of the guitarists, especially the great Bob Vigna, one of the most important figures in Metal of Death. Ross Dolan, the bassist and singer, has a powerful and evil growl that I consider one of the best vocals in the genre, and finally, the drumming deserves praise, being very technical and never trivial.
Besides the splendid cover, within the album, you will find violence, genius, and darkness. The album begins with "Nailed To Gold" and "Burn With Jesus", an extremely violent duet where the band expresses all its hatred towards Christianity. It continues with the splendid "I Feel Nothing" showcasing a great performance by Ross Dolan, and it ends with the true masterpiece of the album "Christ's Cage", in my opinion, one of the best death metal songs of all time. Make it yours, this album is a true masterpiece unjustly forgotten...
