Probably Immolation is one of the most underrated bands in the whole Death Metal scene. If you ask someone about them, they will probably reply, "Well, yeah... they're the ones from Dawn Of Possession." Well... you can't blame a definition like that, but it's worth considering that back in 1991, Immolation seemed more like a Morbid Angel cover band. Yet, after that excellent but not exactly original album, Immolation released some extraordinary albums and developed extremely heavy and dark sounds. This Harnessing Ruin is the last album released by the band. Well... let's be clear right away, for metalheads familiar with the much-cited Dawn Of Possession, it will be difficult to recognize the band playing this album. This album is both dark and brilliant at the same time, a gem that could excite the same masters Morbid Angel, who recently released the horrid Heretic.

In this album, Immolation has embarked on the path of experimentation by embracing new influences in their trademark sound. The wall of sound produced by the two guitarists is still tremendously heavy, but within it, we find more melody, an oppressive and unhealthy melody that can remind one of Morbid Angel's Domination. Singer-bassist Ross Dolan unleashes his deep growl, confirming him as one of the best vocalists in the genre, and at some points, he even ventures into clean vocals. Listen to gems like the opening "Swarm Of Terror," the striking title track, or the incredibly heavy "Son Of Iniquity," or the overly experimental "Dead To Me," and you'll find the genius of these four musicians. Highly recommended for all Death Metal lovers.
