If there's one thing we know how to do well in Italy, it's Death Metal. Especially the more technical and refined kind. Anyone who has had the opportunity to listen to bands like Sadist or the more recent Infernal Poetry and Illogicist knows what I'm talking about!!!!
And it's precisely the new album from the latter, The Insight Eye, that I'm about to review. After debuting in 2004 with the splendid Subjected, and participating in renowned festivals like the S-Hammer, Illogicist return with a new album. Worth noting are some line-up changes that saw the entry of Marco Minnemann, who, besides being the drummer for the formidable Necrophagist, boasts collaborations with musicians of the caliber of Alan Hallsworth and Paul Gilbert. In fact, what immediately stands out, or rather what strikes the ears, is the colossal performance of the drummer.
Compared to the previous album, it's immediately noticeable that they didn't want to rest on their laurels, producing a fruitless and sterile clone of their acclaimed debut, but the differences from Subjected are immediately apparent, while maintaining their total reverence for sacred monsters like DEATH and ATHEIST. Indeed, just one listen, or two, three, a thousand, to the album is enough to realize the quality leap in songwriting and the complexity and technicality of the arrangements. Not a moment of boredom, not a drop in tension, just listen, besides the beautiful title track, to tracks like Brain Collapse, The Absolute Or Nothing or the concluding Secrets of Human Hate to realize the capabilities reached by the Aosta combo. That said, however, don't think they've surrendered to a sterile demonstration of technical prowess, because it all has to be seen, but especially heard, in the context of still very catchy and enjoyable songs..............yes, I said CATCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you add to all this an almost perfect production and a very suggestive artwork, the picture is complete.
After the excellent return of the masters Sadist, and while waiting for the crazy and brilliant Infernal Poetry, Illogicist confirms that Italian Metal is not just Lacuna Coil and Rhapsody but something more, something better............MUCH better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The enormous merit of resurrecting a burdensome ghost like that of Schuldiner belongs to a small but great band from Aosta named Illogicist.
The monstrous technical side never takes over allowing the tracks to have a certain fluidity.
