Who is Iggy Pop.
Iggy Pop is an old man with sleek, bleached hair who often roams among the world's most prestigious festivals with his Stooges, labeled as a special guest, married to a Playboy girl (... the charm of age… who knows...) and who leads a decidedly comfortable life.
Now, who was Iggy Pop.
He had a loser face (see cover) but Iggy Pop was a musician. A musician with real balls, the epitome of rock for at least two generations. He debuted in '69 with the Stooges (another cornerstone of true rock), but in 1974, due to drugs, it was all over. Being a heroin addict, he admitted himself to an institution, where he was visited by a friend, a certain David Bowie (also known as "The White Duke") who took him on a tour of Germany and got him a contract with Virgin.
Under this record label, he began his solo career. Well, even without the Stooges, Iggy Pop proved to be a musician of great value. In 1977, "Lust For Life" was released, certainly his most memorable album. Practically every track alludes in one way or another to success, wealth, and a dissolute life (life experiences...). The first song, which is also the title track, is undoubtedly among the most famous. The classic song that everyone listens to a billion times without knowing the author... but it's beautiful, so the dear Jet well thought to blatantly copy it for their big hit "Are You Gonna B… bla bla bla". Obviously, it’s not the only track that has been plagiarized thoroughly: even more plagiarized, in fact, was "The Passenger", a song of rare simplicity and beauty. The other tracks (all fantastic) have more or less the same formula: brilliant riffs and solos that leave you astonished, with some keyboard interludes (the piano on this album is played by Bowie). To note in this regard "Sixteen", "Success", and "Fall In Love With Me".
Yes… surely the successful outcome of the album was contributed by the participation of David Bowie… a record of times gone by, one of the best of the 70s, from which many have drawn, from the already mentioned Jet to the unsuspecting Franz Ferdinand (yes, precisely them, listen to the last "You Could Have It So Much Better" and perhaps you'll understand). Perhaps the only fault of poor Iggy Pop was not dying earlier, like every respectable rock star… (...just kidding...)
