The Profile

American proto‑punk band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967 by Iggy Pop (James Osterberg), Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, and Dave Alexander. Seminal albums The Stooges (1969), Fun House (1970), and Raw Power (1973) shaped punk’s DNA. The group reunited in the 2000s, releasing The Weirdness (2007) and Ready to Die (2013).

Influential to punk and alternative rock; key tracks include I Wanna Be Your Dog, Search and Destroy, and Gimme Danger. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Six DeBaser reviews paint Iggy & The Stooges as feral, fearless, and foundational to proto‑punk. Raw Power is praised for its incendiary riffs and iconic cuts like Search and Destroy and Gimme Danger, with debate over Bowie’s mix. Metallic K.O. is hailed for legendary chaos and confrontation. 2004’s Tokyo set proves the reformed band’s undimmed energy, while rarities comps divide opinions (Penetration lauded; Wild Love criticized).
