LA RECENSIONE

As often happens (or rather, it would be great if it happened), with the relentless passage of time one grows, matures, begins to see things from a different perspective, even changes musical tastes. A brief introduction to discuss If I Die Today, a band from Piedmont that has been around for several years and is known to most for its past in the punk-hardcore scene, yet today we find them in completely new attire and - to tell the whole truth - decidedly more convincing. The band seems to have completely lost that "party-hard" spirit of days gone by, becoming an entity that can only be described as extremely angry. If I Die Today in 2015 is a band composed of mature musicians who have a rather dark view of today's reality, especially regarding religion itself. "Cursed" is thus a work that has no fear of being brutal, both in the content of the lyrics and in the sound. Musically, the quintet has focused entirely on distortion and destructive rage, closely aligning with the style of Neurosis and Botch in their sound interpretation. Vocally, I would describe Marco Fresia's performance as over the top, a skillful disseminator of hate and a faithful disciple of Bannon from Converge's brutal vocal style. Among many productions deemed "metal," I believe this "Cursed" is something beyond, personally ranking it among the best releases of 2015. Perhaps a tad repetitive for those not closely associated with the genre, but absolutely phenomenal to me. Give it a listen.

Summary by Bot

If I Die Today sheds their punk-hardcore past to embrace a darker, more mature and brutally honest metal sound on 'Cursed.' The album channels destructive rage and mature perspectives, especially critiquing religion through heavy distortion and intense vocals. The band’s style is compared to Neurosis and Botch, with Marco Fresia’s vocal delivery inspired by Converge’s Bannon. Despite potential repetitiveness for casual listeners, this album is highly praised as one of 2015’s best metal releases.
