The Idramante burst onto the Italian pop scene like a breath of fresh air. Their debut album, Nel mio viaggio, indeed contains all the elements of a well-crafted work. Starting from the perfect fusion of the various elements that should—yet are often overlooked—compose a discographic project of this kind: namely, commercial appeal, not divorced from the depth of musical and conceptual themes.

Thus, following an opening in full Italian style, with songs of immediate impact like the beautiful Tgv and the cover-song Nel mio viaggio (surely suitable for the most popular radio circuits), a more complexly structured path follows, as evidenced by the length of the tracks Gridami (7’10”) and Bologna color ruggine (6’23”). Pieces in which influences of various genres merge: from Dire Straits to Cranberries, from Elisa to Carmen Consoli. And this is perhaps the crux of the matter. The merit of the project realized by the Mantuan trio lies, in our opinion, also in the numerous references present in the ten tracks recorded, almost marking the milestones of a path partly already traveled by the greats of pop, but along which the Idramante manage to discover and highlight new poignant vistas.

Nel mio viaggio, therefore, opens up in the listener a panorama of tastes and colors that remain imprinted, unhesitatingly fleeing the most touristy and stagnant clichés of pop. The imaginative depth of the lyrics far exceeds a perhaps somewhat overly edifying view of the world and offers us clear snapshots of extraordinary poetic force.
Delivering it all to us is a voice, that of Anna Luppi, that wastes no time admiring itself in the mirror, but goes straight to the heart with the simplicity typical of great performers.
