Those who wanted to know will find wisdom. The others, I gladly send them to better inform themselves on pitchfork, vice, ondarock, and various others.
The backstory is so intrinsically punk that the hipsters don't even notice it and ride the wave, and the post-punkers - I am a patient boy - scrutinize or turn the other way (eh!?). Anyway. Four skinny and ugly eighteen-year-old Danes, with an imagery from the proletarian right-wing Calvin Klein 2011/2012 (bomber jackets, Fred Perry jackets, little polos, etc.) and I have to admit that if image is everything, the image of entitled proletarian right-wing eighteen-year-olds won with me.
Then, the album cover. Uh. Very cool. Cardboard on photo. Fire and smoke. Nice.
The music. Well. I read Wire+Big Black+another band, maybe Gang of Four?....Joy Division/Warsaw...for sure.
The references are there, the 78-84 hardcore matrix is undeniable. But more SSD than Black Flag, I would say. Now that I think about it, I see them fantasizing over some 7" by Die Kreuzen at the shop of the guy from Gorilla Angreb (Bedtre Tider mediafire, now!)
The intro, both times I heard it, I skipped. Then comes white rune the single from which I think the internet craze started. Then a couple of worthy tracks, twangy guitars, pounding drums, random chaos, a couple of melodies. Then at track 8, there is collapse which is my favorite piece from yesterday and today (as in 9th and 10th August 2011), then until the end in the manner I have already detailed. Mh.
Well, what can I say, we could use more of it.
Here, the hype comes from I Cani. No easy irony, which we don’t possess anyway.
To give an idea of the situation to those interested, for me, between I Cani and this ICEAGE there's more or less the same difference as between Metallica of "Ride the Lightning" and your cousin's classmate's band doing a cover of metalmilitia. Just to say, eh.
Anyway, what a pain to talk about I Cani in a review that talks about a decent record; then people cling to these things, or rather, they cling to these things, saying that in Italy there's a lot of envious people.
There you go, indeed, in Italy there's a lot of envious people. Go to Denmark. Let's see.
