Ian Dury and the Blockheads

Musical Group

Ian Dury and the Blockheads were an English rock/pub-rock/new-wave group led by singer-songwriter Ian Dury. Known for hits such as "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" and "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick", the band combined R&B, funk and music-hall influences with Dury's cockney wit.

Ian Dury (1942–2000) contracted polio as a child and attended the Royal College of Art. He rose to prominence in the late 1970s with Stiff Records. The song "Spasticus Autisticus" (1981) was controversial and faced a BBC ban. A 2010 biopic, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, features Andy Serkis as Ian Dury.

The supplied review praises Mr Love Pants and frames Ian Dury as insolent, generous and defiant in the face of illness. It traces his trajectory from childhood polio through art school to pub-rock and Stiff Records-era success, highlighting key songs and controversies. The review celebrates Dury's wit, sexual bravado and lasting influence.
