Ian Dury (1942–2000) was a British singer-songwriter and actor, frontman of Kilburn and the High Roads and later Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Rising from the UK pub rock scene into the new wave era, he became renowned for witty, slang-rich lyrics and a genre-blending mix of funk, rock’n’roll and music-hall influences.

Contracted polio in childhood; emerged from UK pub rock into the late-1970s new wave; fronted Ian Dury and the Blockheads; UK No.1 single with "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" in 1979.
