LA RECENSIONE

I know, Post Mortem came out in April but I only listened to it these days, an unexpected comeback that no one dared to hope for anymore after nine years of silence from I Cani. Niccolò Contessa, always a shy figure and allergic to hype since his beginnings (remember the masks!), broke the long recording hiatus during which he still expressed his inexhaustible creativity as a producer (Tuttifenomeni) and through surprise appearances with artists like Coez, Max Pezzali, and Giovanni Truppi.

This fourth album comes across as a natural and urgent outpouring. The 13 tracks mark the meeting point between the edgy energy of the early days and the nihilistic maturity developed over time. There is nothing banal or forgettable in this work. Contessa once again demonstrates an extremely high level of compositional and lyrical skill, confirming the expectations of those who had been waiting for him, albeit with resignation.

Post Mortem is exactly the album fans were hoping for, with the added bonus of the remarkably unexpected acoustic finale in the song Un’altra onda. A high-level comeback that refreshes the indie pop scene.

It’s just that someone needs to tell you that this little game has lasted long enough.

The other wave is clearly the one that will wipe us forever from the face of the earth, so the whole piece is a sarcastic danse macabre on the oblivion that awaits us.

In Post Mortem, the leap is there and it’s evident, starting from the excellent quality of the lyrics to the care of the sounds and arrangements.

The sonic exploration results in a constant and blatant oscillation between Mk.gee and Iosonouncane...the echoes at times are really disarming.
