THE REVIEW

Here we are at the second discographic appointment of the Apulian band "Human Slaughterhouse," born in 2008 from the ashes of the project "Cyber Cock" (Grindcore).
Introducing us to the listening of this EP is the track "Nevrosi", composed of a slow nostalgic arpeggio, almost as if to make us perceive that trickling hinted at by the name of the work (Trickle). Curious and absolutely fitting is the choice of dialogue taken from the film "Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion" (Elio Petri – 1970) which highlights the neurosis of the culprit.
The droplets become more insistent at the start of "Left to Shred", characterized by very present but not insistent rhythmic sections, which provide a backdrop to driving guitar riffs with a melodic vein and a voice that presents itself characteristically guttural and genuine, without falling into pig squeal.
The third track "Out of the Wounds" is the most successful: the rhythmic sections become obsessive from the first bars, delivering a death metal with a slightly modern American twist, aided by well-structured and aggressive vocals.
The guitar returns to give that sense of melody, phrasing on high tones and nonetheless reinforcing the rhythm. This is the most emblematic and suggestive track of the entire EP.
"Hallucinosis" is composed simply of some guitar "larsen" that extend for about a minute: the intent seems to be to let the ears rest, yet after just two tracks, a sort of detachment from the previously created sound is formed.
And here is a hint of thrash metal in the riffs that guide the listening of "The Lurking Worm", the longest and certainly the most articulated track of the release. The mood of the guitar is the same as in the previous tracks but further enhanced by a more varied and slightly more complex rhythm.
It's the turn of "Your Grief Lives Among the Dead", slightly more pronounced than the previous ones yet remaining in the same style of composition.
"Ritual" will sanction the end of the album, bringing us back to the melancholy of the first track with the suggestive background noises... listen to believe.
In conclusion: "Trickle Down" is a work that is enjoyable to listen to, despite the lack of compositional variety which makes the pieces very similar to each other.
It's not miraculous, due to the objective difficulty of standing out in a genre that is now not very accustomed to originality, but nonetheless, the EP is recommended for listening to death metal lovers who appreciate more refined sounds and more modern compositions, losing a bit of the old-school characteristics.
