There is so much stuff in a Hum album that it makes your head spin.

And that's what we like: a spinning head and a paradisiacal confusion where everything shines with a new light.

We could say that in this expedition, post-hardcore will be our spaceship, space-rock the destination, the ultimate planet to launch towards with intrepid flair, and the ineffable melodies crafted by our band will represent the hearts of us travelers, throbbing with emotions and expectations.

Someone who has expertly delved into the rather cryptic lyrics of the band has often considered it all as the sui generis narration of a love—with its intrinsic vicissitudes—during interplanetary travel times.

Possible. But in the end, there's no need for the lyrics—softly intoned by Matt Talbott: it's all already in the sound. In that perfect blend of "noise" and an exquisite pop taste, as only the masters of shoegaze know how to do.

From the uncharted depths of the cosmos, to those of mysterious oceanic abysses, to the even more incomprehensible ones of the human soul: it will make little difference where we move, because we will equally have eyes dazzled by splendor and breath taken away.

From the majestic guitar peaks that overwhelm the spirit, to the sweetest, melancholic phrases that console it.

Because, as the Hum appropriately whisper to us, "downward is heavenward...and we are not alone".

For the true lovers of adventure—much more than just musical.

And never forget the previous and equally extraordinary You’d Prefer An Astronaut.

Bon voyage.

Tracklist Lyrics and Videos

01   Isle of the Cheetah (06:38)

Chance brought me down on your side
She's just along for the ride
Wings melt and we hide
All this means nothing to the sun
Are we leaving this one

Mind comes true here
Bruised, expanding clear
Mine full of you here
I would claim no losses in the sun
Are we leaving this one

And swift as she goes to the last frame
Short lives and long days in a fast state
Then we'll lay way to you

Your ocean spreads out on sunbeams
Radiant, knowing
And your hand looks so nice in mine

And it's been a thousand new seams since inception
And radiant, glowing
They say that we're doing fine

And the new-come struggle has both of us
Stapled to the island for a while
And they say that we're doing fine

02   Comin' Home (02:45)

We're two points collapsing
Supercharged from the storm
Sun-drenched in our faces too deformed

Bliss with intent to see us
Peeling locust skins from the locust tree
Hang on to these places, she says to me

Clearly in this afternoon
Clearly we will have to turn
And come home soon

She fell into me, a point collapsing
With her loving face in the snow
The mission could be corrupted and we wouldn't know

My baby reaches for the sound
I've got my feet against the ground
I'll take you anywhere you want

Loving us more as you see us
Peeling locust skins from the locust trees
Hang on to their faces, she screams to me

03   If You Are to Bloom (05:11)

04   Ms. Lazarus (03:38)

I come to you all dressed in sound,
with bluebirds tripping wires to the ground,
connected to a time machine that will not power down.
Set the crosshairs back on one,
you said we'd only die here in a sun.
The way your headstone shines,
I only wish that it was mine.

So set the crosshairs back on one,
I nail the loop that brings the second run,
past the wished on charms
and through the lens back to your living arms.

This time machine won't power down.
And this time machine won't power down.

And still the crosshairs rest on one,
and still you rest there in the morning sun.
Still I fumble through pages of constructions on the ride.
I like the blown out sound we've found,
I like the way it feels here coming down.
The way your headstone shines, I only wish that it was mine.

05   Afternoon With the Axolotls (06:27)

She hits the plate with both hands high
Downward is heavenward and we are not alone
Condensers on and a drop is found
A fingertip trace says to me I can see you when you are red

A bed of dead leaves grace the ground
A quick glance to the other side and we will not be found
Symbiants in haste command come close
Screams to me I can see you above the rest

And through it all she seems secure
Downward is heavenward and we are not alone
Head thrown back a second time
Eyes shut he yells above can we do this without a net

06   Green to Me (03:55)

The morning image from the satellite is all blue and green
And we've all got wounds to clean
Here's a rag, here's some gasoline

She wakes up fine and rested well, released at last from in the sleeping cell
Breathing comes with ease, it's a sweet revenge
Built on a chemical ride, my medicine man is the best
Wires to the temples, lace them on, let's see how we sound

It's all green to me
What a sweet revenge
It's all green to me

I see them lift off one by one, I see a cool spot here, let's bring her down
Pedal to the ground, a lovely mess that I am blessed to see of me
She lifts her wings up high, sends her shrill of a lifetime until we die
And all the dreams, details affected in the colored sky

It lifts up your days in a single phase I felt your hand
Lift up your skies and all the other times you realize

07   Dreamboat (06:06)

08   The Inuit Promise (06:06)

09   Apollo (05:47)

10   The Scientists (05:25)
