THE REVIEW

After two brilliant albums like Zen Arcade and New Day Rising, Hüsker Dü have run out of inspiration and cobble together... the third masterpiece in two years!!!

Cobble together? Not at all: this is their most perfect album from a songwriting perspective, overflowing with wonderful songs, catchy choruses, and energetic riffs. The sound is certainly more pop and "commercial" than in their previous works; is that a bad thing? No, if the music maintains the same sincerity and immediacy as before; sincerity and immediacy not sacrificed by a more refined and complete form.
Do you know Hüsker Dü for their records with WarnerBros (Candy Apple Grey and Warehouse)? Flip Your Wig has a similar sound but is ten times more immediate and captivating, listened to with more pleasure. To be clear, I love those two albums, but each time FYW leaves me amazed: how did those three manage to compose so many gems of catchiness and perfection in just a few months?
The moving "Green Eyes", the imposing and hypnotic "Find Me", "Divide & Conquer" which renders the entire career of Bad Religion superfluous, the stunning melodies of "Makes No Sense At All", "Flip Your Wig" and "Flexible Flyer" all leave you speechless; the rest is equally astonishing apart from, perhaps, a couple of tracks.

In conclusion: a highly recommended album, the easiest way to get closer to the music of Hüsker Dü and then enjoy their other masterpieces.

Hüsker Dü

Hüsker Dü were an American rock band from Minnesota, best known as a Minneapolis trio (Bob Mould, Grant Hart, Greg Norton) who helped expand 1980s hardcore punk into melodic, emotionally charged alternative and indie rock. Their run from the early 1980s to 1988 is frequently cited as hugely influential, with Zen Arcade often treated as a landmark release.
