Uh-oh! We are informed that this review also appears (in whole or in part) on http://at-sin-e.blogspot.com
I've already talked about the Hot Chip, positively judging the tracks featured on their Myspace page. Meanwhile, what turns out to be their third album has been released: "Made in the Dark". A title that initially left me somewhat perplexed, reminding me of a sound completely opposite to what the title might suggest. I remembered correctly; although the album does feature some unexpected tracks.
"Made in the Dark" kicks off well with the grumpy "Out At The Picture", opening the doors of the album.
It is followed by "Shake A Fist", which I had already had the opportunity to listen to several times. A piece of two faces, or rather, in its over 5 minutes, the second half is a heavy repetition of sounds.
The third track, "Ready For The Floor", is the single. The indispensable electronics is present, but in this case, it leaves a bit of space for an '80s-echoing pop.
As was said, "Made in the Dark", and so far, the disconcertment remains, even increases after listening to the fourth track. Just when I was about to erase the title from the album cover (which I don't have, since it's downloadable for free from the band's website), things start to change.
Probably for the worse.
They change first with "We’re Looking For A Lot Of Love"; then with the title track, which seems to be born precisely for this purpose. The rightful title track.
After these, the darkness as if nothing happened steps aside, leaving the floor to the negligible "One Pure Thought" first and to a far from negligible "Hold On" later, very LCD Soundsystem (although it would have been better to cut the last two minutes).
Track No. 10: "Wrestlers": unlistenable. Better is "Don’t Dance", that is, undanceable techno (as per the title). "Whistle for Will" would be the right close for the album. Would be, because Hot Chip also toss a superfluous "In The Privacy Of Our Love" into the mix.
So many different and disordered things. A mess.
