THE REVIEW

The underground is full of groups that maybe play for fun, bands that musically emulate their favorite artists, sometimes even unknowingly surpassing them. Hopes Die Last are a band from a town near Rome, they have an EP called "Aim For Tomorrow," a demo that showcased the capabilities of all the members of the band, with the only flaw being that the music offered was too derivative of bands like Hawthorne Heights, Underoath, and our own Vanilla Sky.

With the addition of Becko to the group, Hopes Die Last found a true turning point both vocally and musically; they composed three songs, "Thanks For Coming", "Lastnight's Goodbye", and the single I am about to review, "Call Me Sick Boy". The track starts aggressively with the drums and Nicolò’s screams, showing that he is no less than overseas screamers. The guitars are as pleasant as ever, reminiscent of Bullet For My Valentine and at times Underoath. Becko’s melodic voice intertwines with Nicolò’s screams, all supported by an impressive rhythmic section. We reach the chorus, aggressive and desperate like few others, showing everyone that the Roman quintet is no less than established Italian groups like Vanilla Sky or Gaia Corporation. Their true misfortune is being Italian; because if they were in America, by now they would be idolized and would have thousands of emo kids under their stage.

I cannot say much more since it is only a single, but I recommend you listen to it because it’s really worth it. And I also take this opportunity to tell you that on June 9th, they will be live at the traffic of Rome, go see them!
