A woman begins to investigate the death of a professor and is brought back to the case of a videotape that, if watched, causes the viewer's death a week after viewing. She also sees the videotape through the mind of a girl who went insane in the first film after her friend died because of the video. The woman finally finds journalist Asakawa and her son Yuichi, who had escaped Sadako's murderous fury in the first film. Soon, however, strange phenomena occur: Asakawa is killed by a truck and Yuichi begins to develop the ability to kill people with his thoughts. The woman then takes little Yuichi to the island of Izo, where Sadako lived, to try to uncover its mysteries.
A sequel made almost out of necessity, after the success of the successful and still charming little horror film "Ringu" and it is precisely the haste and desire for success that cause this nearly senseless and lacking original ideas sequel to lose points. Very few scares, frantic suspense, good acting... but it doesn't leave a mark... Only the mirror scene is unforgettable, for the rest, the work displays a complete lack of logic...
Hideo Nakata certainly has an undeniable visual talent, but often the film, rather than merely touching on the absurd, usurps it with elephantine sensitivity. The ending is nice.
