LA RECENSIONE

The first things I carefully notice about an underground band before listening to their work are two: the way they present themselves and the attention given to the graphic concept. In the case of Here Lies A Whisper, the sextet active since 2011 has certainly worked hard over the years, releasing an EP ("Drowning") and a single in 2012 ("Your Eyes on Reflection"), eventually replacing the bassist and melodic singer in 2013. A new lineup that, according to the parties involved, has breathed new artistic life into the project, pushing them to compose their debut album titled "Loop Quantum Gravity". A work that – referring back to my initial consideration – boasts a decidedly impactful artwork or at least piques my curiosity about what these guys do.

Once the play button is pressed, the initial sensation is that of being faced with a band that makes post-hardcore/metalcore their raison d'être, a theory that is supported by listening to the eleven tracks contained here. "Loop Quantum Gravity" is an album that, while not all that bad, suffers greatly in terms of production, especially the voices that are anything but balanced, with the melodic one placed in super focus compared to a growl that, although monotonous, is not that bad. The sound proposal does not offer much in the way of new ideas; the rhythm section may be the only one to enjoy powerful and calibrated sounds, while the guitars do not have the impact and weight they should, especially in the more melodic parts of the work. This general struggle is particularly evident in tracks like "Gravity" and "No way out," episodes well-conceived in the rehearsal room but which lose considerably during recording. In short, a debut that leaves a bitter taste, at times interesting (see the heavier parts) but often too tied to the rigid schemes dictated by the current core scene. What to do?! Inject personality and grit, the tools to do well in the future are all there.

Summary by Bot

Here Lies A Whisper’s debut album 'Loop Quantum Gravity' demonstrates the band’s dedication with strong artwork and energetic ideas. However, the album suffers from unbalanced vocals and lackluster guitar impact. Despite adherence to typical metalcore and post-hardcore formulas, some heavier parts show promise. The reviewer encourages the band to inject more personality and grit in future releases.
