The hype around these Hellions was (and is) so overwhelming that it was impossible not to encounter them if you're used to browsing the main alternative media online. Described as the "next big thing" in the alternative rock scene, they have finally released their new album, "Opera Oblivia", recorded once again in Thailand (don't ask me what could drive a band to seek a studio in Thailand, it's not very clear to me...). That said, what are we talking about? An album that, okay, is very nice, nothing more. The tracks have a punch, there's an incredible single (I'm serious) like "Thresher", but it's a pity that everything gradually declines afterward. To better understand, try listening to the album in your car; I'm sure more than once you'll be tempted to skip to the next song, not because it's something indecent, but because it doesn't provide those necessary inputs to keep the listener "engaged". Let's give it up for the boldness of the frontman Dre, who, between rapped parts and more melodic-oriented ones, garners approval and stands out compared to the accompanying musicians. Take My Chemical Romance in certain ways, modernize and make them much catchier than they already were back in the day, and here you have the Hellions, a slightly unripe band for making that leap to notoriety that too many were predicting before hearing this album.
