Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber (1644–1704) was a Bohemian Baroque composer and virtuoso violinist who worked in Salzburg, becoming one of the 17th century’s most important violin figures. He is renowned for the Rosary (Mystery) Sonatas, large-scale sacred works such as the Missa Salisburgensis, and innovative use of scordatura.

Born 1644, died 1704; Bohemian composer-violinist active in Salzburg; famed for the Rosary/Mystery Sonatas and the large-scale Missa Salisburgensis (53 voices); composed the Requiem in A (1690); prominent user of scordatura.

Two in-depth reviews celebrate Biber’s sacred and violin works. Performances by Jordi Savall and Ensemble Cordaria are praised.
