Reasonably known in their own country (Iunaited Steits of Emereca) and having landed in the boot in the year 2007 with the hit "Cupid's Chokehold", Gym Class Heroes play an innovative (?) blend of rock and rap.
The whole thing, mind you, is ultimately aimed at producing unabashedly catchy tracks rather than bold sonic experiments.
The album in question, often defined online as "too rock for a rap album and too rap for a rock album", or in the same vein "too indie to be a mainstream album, too mainstream to be an indie album," in the DeRecensore's opinion, should be judged simply for what it is and not for what it should (or would like to) be.
In fact, to be honest, there's nothing "rock" about this album, unless a live bass and drums are a minimum and sufficient condition. Rather, one could speak of energetic, vibrant, and pleasant pop.
So if you love what is "catchy" in a poppy way, let yourself be seduced by the unabashedly danceable pair "New Friend Request"/"Clothes Off!", the very sugary (yet in its own way irresistible) "7 Weeks", or for something less flirtatious and deeper, indulge in a "Shoot Down The Stars" or a "The Queen And I".
Chart pop it is, and chart pop it remains, yet "it's so cute"!
