Guru Banana, memories of a great artisan of music, a pastry chef, the dandy of Canterbury who in 1975 titled one of his songs this way.
Guru Banana, the band of the duo Giovanni Ferrario, Andrea Fusari, in 2011 releases their 2nd work "KarmaSoda".
An excellent Pop Rock work, free from the provincialism that unfortunately affects many Italian bands that choose to follow Anglophone paths. "Karmasoda" is animated by purely English suggestions ranging from the late 60s, second half of the 70s, and 80s. It winks at the past but its gaze is clearly focused on the present.
Modern, refined music, extremely well-crafted in the arrangements, that certainly recalls great names but does not bow down, it does not wish to be a copy, it only wants to be the music of Guru Banana.
The initial "Enter Any Question" is a sorbet that pays homage to the pastry art of Kevin Ayers.
"Rifles", a floral synth pop delight from the 80s.
In these grooves, XTC, Robyn Hitchcock, colorful dub blissfully waves over psycho pop, power pop melodies in "Liza Show", the Soft Boys in "B. J. Core."
Different ingredients blended perfectly, the result can only be an excellent work, from an excellent band that by daring more could achieve great things as they show great ease in writing immediate melodies.
