British guitar supergroup formed around Steve Howe and Steve Hackett; released a single studio album (GTR, 1986) and a number of live recordings.

Line-up on the studio album and in reviews: Steve Hackett (guitar, synthesizers, backing vocals), Steve Howe (guitar, synthesizers, backing vocals), Max Bacon (lead vocals), Phil Spalding (bass, backing vocals) and Jonathan Mover (drums). The 1986 album was produced by Geoff Downes and was remastered in 2001.

Two DeBaser reviews see GTR as a technically strong, melodically driven 1980s project led by Steve Howe and Steve Hackett. Critics note AOR and prog influences, praise musicianship and vocals, but fault production choices and the album's divergence from long-form prog. The self-titled 1986 album remains the band's primary studio legacy.

For:Fans of 1980s rock, guitar-driven music, prog/AOR listeners and followers of Steve Howe or Steve Hackett.

“Steve Hackett and Steve Howe in the same band?? The quintessential prog guitarists taking on the same work?? It must be truly fantastic!”

This album remains, the only musical proof of GTR, that is, of the Howe/Hackett duo.
