The Profile

British supergroup formed in 1985 by Steve Howe (Yes/Asia) and Steve Hackett (Genesis). Released the self-titled album GTR in 1986, produced by Geoff Downes; the single “When the Heart Rules the Mind” reached the US Top 20. The group disbanded in 1987; later live releases documented the tour.

Members: Steve Hackett (guitar), Steve Howe (guitar), Max Bacon (vocals), Phil Spalding (bass), Jonathan Mover (drums). Producer: Geoff Downes. Notable tracks include “When the Heart Rules the Mind” and “The Hunter”. Live releases include King Biscuit Flower Hour: GTR and Roundabout.

Two reviews revisit GTR’s lone 1986 album: big prog pedigree, AOR results. Strong playing and memorable singles offset uneven lyrics/production. Highlights cited include When the Heart Rules the Mind (Top 20), The Hunter, Sketches in the Sun, and Imagining. Tech-heavy production by Geoff Downes and the short-lived lineup are central themes. Live releases keep the project’s legacy visible.
