Formed in Gothenburg in 1988, Grotesque released demos and the Incantation EP before dissolving after about two years. Members went on to other projects (notably Tomas Lindberg and Alf Svensson joining forces with the Björler brothers for At The Gates). The compilation In the Embrace of Evil was issued in 1997; a commemorative concert connected to the book Swedish Death Metal served as a final farewell ten years later.

Grotesque is a short-lived but influential Gothenburg extreme metal band. Members included Tomas Lindberg (Goatspell) and Kristian Wåhlin (Necrolord). Kristian Wåhlin became a noted graphic artist and created album covers for bands such as Bathory, Dissection, Emperor, Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, Dismember, Edge Of Sanity, Necrophobic, Tiamat, Morgana Lefay, At The Gates and the album "Elements" by Atheist.
