Are you in the mood to listen to something different? Are you a fan of any type of music that isn't "commercial"? Are you a lover of Italian alternative? Would you be willing to listen to an album that maybe sounds a bit dated, but not too much because it was definitely ahead of its time when it was released back in 1987? Well, this is the album for you...
The Gronge are quite strange and hallucinating, particularly with their first album, "Fase Di Rigetto", in truth, the only album of theirs I managed to "find" and thus listen to. Attitudinally punk, this Roman group opens musically in all directions and was among the protagonists of self-production and the independent-underground scene in Italy during the 80s. It's not easy to listen to this album due to unusual, "avant-garde", unpredictable sounds, that feed on New-Wave and at times verge into noise. The Gronge aim to strike directly at our minds and sensations, experimenting and communicating their discomfort and their desire to break out of the ordinary through both music and lyrics, which are raw and angry, anxious and claustrophobic, strongly emotional and rich in metropolitan glimpses. It's difficult to clearly define them, as electronics blend with punk in a sparse and essential musical structure, with a dominating electric bass, drums and synth, accompanied by a female voice that leaves no room for free solos.
One of the first and perhaps only Italian Industrial bands?
