In the underground rock/underground scene, there aren't many truly interesting releases. To be honest, what is lacking is originality... and a good dose of genuineness. A work that can rightfully be defined as original is that of the mysterious Grimm. We know him to be a self-taught musician/composer who, in his formative journey, has touched upon a wide array of genres. The name itself, which evokes the famous Brothers Grimm, communicates an idea of mystery... foggy landscapes and fleeting distorted figures. Like the famous storytellers, he also touches on the mysteries of life in a comical/tragic key. His debut demo, consisting of three tracks, talks about three of the Grimm's most famous characters: Cinderella, Snow White, and the Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. For a self-produced demo, it has good fluidity in recording. Musically speaking, the songs are well constructed, rich with ideas that, if developed with care, could give life to a truly respectable project. There are many influences and reminiscences of Goblin... and the demo indeed recalls the atmospheres of Dario Argento. Perhaps the only flaw is the singing, too classic and set. If we want to be critical, it's not very original compared to the musical and poetic composition. Considering the few means available to this music sprite, we can safely give him a rating of 4 points. With hopes for more fruitful work. Of course, for a demo, we can only stick to a fair rating, taking into account the few resources available. But a 4 is well-deserved. Especially for the courage shown in putting himself out there with such an unconventional musical proposal... almost crazy, like the best of North-European fairy tale traditions. What will he pull out of the hat next time? Bluebeard, the gods of Olympus? Or a tale of his invention? An illusionist's tricks are many. We can only hope for a next work... perhaps more refined and even darker in tone, for the joy of genre enthusiasts.
