The Profile

Grant Hart (1961–2017) was an American musician, drummer, vocalist, and songwriter. He co-founded Hüsker Dü, later led Nova Mob, and released solo albums including Intolerance (1989), Good News for Modern Man (1999), Hot Wax (2009), and The Argument (2013). He died in September 2017 of cancer.

Ecce Homo documents an acoustic set recorded October 13, 1994 at Seattle’s Crocodile Café. Intolerance is a fully solo effort—he wrote, played, sang, and produced. 2541 references the Nicollet Avenue address tied to Hüsker Dü’s history. Good News for Modern Man features varied instrumentation (brass, xylophone, guitars, keyboards). Hot Wax was partly recorded in Montreal with members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The Argument is a concept album inspired by William S. Burroughs and John Milton’s Paradise Lost.

Six reviews trace Grant Hart’s path from Hüsker Dü fallout to stark solo confessionals and ornate concept work. Ecce Homo captures an intense 1994 acoustic set. Intolerance spotlights his one-man studio craft. Good News for Modern Man and Hot Wax chase lush, 60s-tinged arrangements. The Argument closes as an ambitious, Burroughs/Milton-inspired farewell.
