The Profile

Gracious! are a British progressive rock band formed in the late 1960s. They released two acclaimed albums—Gracious! (1970) and This Is... Gracious!! (1972)—and toured with King Crimson and The Who before splitting; a reformed lineup returned with Echo in 1996.

Late-60s British band evolving from blues into progressive rock; music noted as complex and symphonic with psychedelic and jazz-rock elements. Two classic albums (1970 debut and the more mature 1972 follow-up, released after the group’s dissolution). Known tracks cited in reviews include Supernova: Arrival of the Traveller, C.B.S., What’s Come To Be, Blue Skies and Alibis, Hold me Down, Introduction, Fugue in 'D' Minor, Hell, Heaven, and The Dream. Toured with King Crimson and The Who. Reformed for the album Echo in 1996.

The reviews celebrate Gracious! as a lesser-known but vital British prog outfit mixing blues roots, psychedelia and symphonic ambition. The 1970 debut spans hard rock to baroque touches, with standouts like Hell, Heaven and the 17‑minute The Dream. The 1972 follow-up This Is... Gracious! is portrayed as the more mature statement, led by the multi-part suite Supernova: Arrival of the Traveller. References to Genesis, early Pink Floyd, Keith Emerson and mellotron textures set the scene, while touring with King Crimson and The Who hints at their pedigree.
