Gothic Slam were a late-1980s New Jersey thrash band of Hispanic origin. Their 1988 vinyl debut Killer Instinct was produced by Alex Perialas; they released another album in 1989 and then disbanded.

Killer Instinct (1988) was released on vinyl and produced by Alex Perialas. Drummer Dave Chavarri later played in M.O.D., Laaz Rockit, Pro-Pain and Ill Niño. The band used the name Stryker at one point.

The review recalls buying Gothic Slam's 1988 vinyl debut Killer Instinct and the youthful fervor of its eight-track, sub-30-minute thrash. Produced by Alex Perialas, it features raw but flexible vocals by Daniel Gomez and drummer Dave Chavarri (later of Ill Niño and others). The record is enjoyable and nostalgic but lacks standout moments to elevate it above contemporaries.

For:Fans of 1980s thrash metal, vinyl collectors, followers of Dave Chavarri

The debut in question presents eight tracks in just under thirty minutes of Thrash music, played with youthful fervor, endowed with a sound that mimics a just-started truck (thanks to Alex Perialas, already producer of Testament, Overkill, and Vio-Lence), with an imaginative rhythm section and a singer with a raw but modulable voice.
