THE REVIEW

I wake up sleepy... I want to put on a CD. So, I look on the shelves and my eyes fall on the Gorillaz CD... I haven't listened to it in a year!!
I put it on, I already know what to expect, but what I don't anticipate is that the record manages to impress me once again.

But let's get some order, who are these Gorillaz? A cartoon for kids or a band?
The answer is: both.
Obviously, primarily, it's about the music, but the band will never identify themselves in reality and will always be represented by characters drawn by James Howlett.
And the group? It is quite an interesting mix of musicians: 2-D, the singer, is Damon Albarn, yes yes, the one from Blur! Then there's Dan Nakamura, the hip hop - rap soul of the group (coming from a series of already interesting projects), Miho Hatori (from Cibomatto), Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz (ex-Talking Heads), and rapper Del Tha Funky Homosapiens.

What will come out of this cocktail of artists?? The answer is a very interesting CD.
Inside, there are many styles and ways of making music, ranging from dub to rap, from pop to a very contained rock, even skimming the borders of punk: and perhaps it's this (excessive) mix that prevents this CD from being perfect.

Worth remembering "5/4", truly engaging, "Punk", which also reminds us of the punk experiences of our 2-D, "M1 A1", a very particular song: it starts with a very "dark" introduction and then bursts into a full energy intended to last just over a minute, then silence; silence that's interrupted after three minutes by a slightly acidic but still pleasant version of "Clint Eastwood".
Finally, there's "Slow Country", "19-2000", and the aforementioned "Clint Eastwood".

In conclusion, this is a great CD, characterized by a cocktail of music that brings a breath of UN-heard to our ears, fortunately!
The only flaw, as already mentioned, is that sometimes it goes overboard and the CD becomes slightly tiring.
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag I'm useless, but not for long The future is coming on I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag I'm useless, but not for long The future is coming on It's coming on It's coming on It's coming on...
