Gore Slut are the noisiest among Rudy Trouvé's projects.
Rudy Trouvé, with his punch-drunk and dazed look, seems straight out of a Kusturica film. In reality, the only film I've seen him in so far was the music video for Instant Street by dEUS.
Anyway, Rudy Trouvé played guitar in the early dEUS, a great guitarist, certainly not in the Steve Vai or Satriani sense, but he has some great ideas. These ideas come to life in some side projects: first and foremost Dead Man Ray, which is the coolest name out there for a band, Kiss My Jazz (another interesting name), the silly melodies of Lionell Horrowitz, and of course Gore Slut (which means "splatter slut," I believe).
"Gore Slut is all about basic chords, screaming guitars, and summer hits about love, midlife crisis, and depression."
This is what it says on the website, and it's true, but I would add that it's a bit confusing, very lo-fi, a bit fuzzy.
This album is perplexing me; I'm listening to it again right now as I write, and this Lost is a real mess: one sings, one talks, and a woman goes parappà-parappapparà, and as if that weren't enough, you can't even tell if the guitars are distorted, clean, or out of tune ("and I don't care...").
Then Accident comes in, and they seem different, like softer, more liquid Smashing Pumpkins, just how I like them.
The beauty is that there are always two voices singing, one of which is effected and also very much in its own world, as if embarrassed to sing alone, even when they then get angry and dive into distortions and dissonances. This is happening in Lisa Drugstore, which is beautiful.
I think they have made a few other records afterward, and every time I hear this one, I tell myself "I must look for it," but then I never do, there must be a reason for that.
The fault certainly isn't that of this Above The Lisa Drugstore (which is intriguing)... maybe Trouvé's face? Not even that (I like Trouvé's face).
Perhaps there's no reason.
