It feels like returning to the Indian reservations, those where you can breathe spirituality, those of the great chiefs, the medicine man, the wise man. Intoxicated by the smoke of his own peace calumet, with a voice husky enough, a distinctive sign of suffering and how to overcome it, he tells us of living in some Mojave desert or some Cherokee reservation. Far from everything that can represent the hectic life of city dwellers, far from consumerism, accepting only what is needed to survive physically and mentally.
A very reflective and intimate work, dark in its sounds, delicate atmospheres, percussion, slow tribal rhythms, yet everything is well blended in the 10 tracks composing the EP, everything sounds fluid and free from forced extensions (it actually only lasts 24 minutes). Sumach’s voice is always dark, husky, consumed by smoke and alcohol, always ready for a sort of lament - high to decree the ills and not ills of the world. What can I say: it’s easy to listen to and opens up to a kind of new trip hop mixed with dub. I don’t mind it.
