Gojira is a French heavy metal band formed in the 1990s. Core members include Joe Duplantier, Mario Duplantier, Christian Andreu and Jean-Michel Labadie. They are known for heavy, technical songwriting and prominent drumming.

Lyrical themes frequently include environmentalism and spiritual/science-fiction imagery; the band evolved from technical death metal toward more direct, melodic and emotional compositions on later releases.

DeBaser reviews praise Gojira's heavy, inventive songwriting, Mario Duplantier's drumming and strong environmental themes. Classic albums like From Mars to Sirius and The Way Of All Flesh are highlighted as milestones. Magma marks a stylistic shift toward cleaner vocals and more direct songs. Live reports emphasize intense crowd energy and physicality.

For:Fans of heavy, progressive and extreme metal; listeners interested in technical drumming, environmental themes and intense live shows.

The headiness is intense from the very first minutes.

Personality, technique, courage and artistic acumen, songwriting skills and taste in the final realization: these are the peculiar elements with which the French Gojira shape their music, thus releasing what, in my humble opinion, is their best work, in which their true artistic maturity is reached.

The album itself is truly challenging, of long duration (about 1 hour and ten minutes, which is an abyss for this type of proposal), heavy and immensely powerful, with a clear sensation of being crushed to the ground by an unstoppable centripetal force, dictated by the general average slowness of the pieces that are only sporadically allowed to express themselves in grindcore progressions (see "Backbone").

I approached listening to the new Gojira album with great caution, almost with distrust.
